Successful Irish-based property company, Parker Green International have recently signed up supermarket giant, Tesco to anchor their flagship commercial development in Central & Eastern Europe.
Trnava Park Shopping Centre, located in Trnava city, will be developed strategically adjacent to a successful Peugeot Citroen Car Plant and Baumax DIY Superstore.  Due to commence construction early in the New Year, it has been one of the largest commercial developments to have successfully secured the approval of funding from a Slovak bank this year. With Phase 1 of the development due to be completed in spring 2011, it will measure approximately 30,000 sq m, and a further two phases in the pipeline will see it become one of the largest shopping centres in Slovakia.
Speaking on Tesco’s recent signing as anchor tenant, Eddie Cull, Retail Director at Parker Green International said:
“We are delighted to welcome Tesco on board as the anchor tenant to our flagship commercial scheme in Central & Eastern Europe. They are one of the world’s largest and most successful retailers and they will be a huge draw for customers.
Trnava Park will boast, in addition to a Tesco supermarket measuring nearly 5,000 sq m, an enviable line up of local, European, and international retailers including many of the most popular and recognised brands already found in Slovakia's existing prime shopping centres.
As an established international property company, we are very proud of our strong reputation as a successful developer of prime mixed-use commercial developments, a reputation that spans globally and has no doubt played its part in securing the approval of funding for this project from our financial partners, one of the biggest Slovak banks - Slovenska Sporitelna and VUB. We envisage that our Trnava Park Shopping Centre development will be one of Slovakia’s greatest commercial success stories and we are on schedule to turn the first page, when construction begins in a matter of weeks”.
Phase One of Trnava Park Shopping Centre, due to open in early 2011, is comprised of a Tesco supermarket anchor, 90 retail shops, and 1,350 car parking spaces adjacent to those of the Baumax DIY Superstore.  Construction on Phase Two, for which planning and building permission is already in place, is scheduled to commence shortly after the opening of Phase One. Phase Two will be an extension of the main shopping mall and will welcome thirty additional retail units to Trnava Park Shopping Centre.
In time, Parker Green plans to develop further phases of the development to include a hotel, leisure facilities and other business uses, which will surely compliment its own assets as well as those of neighboring developments in this planned major retail destination.
