Carlow’s Prime Retail Centre has plans for expansion

Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow has earned a reputation for being one of the most innovative, private sector, commercial developments in the region. It prides itself on being a catalyst for attracting further inward investment into the area, creating hundreds of local job opportunities and reviving the retail heart of Carlow

This prime retail venture which was developed by Newry-based Property Company, Parker Green International, under the direction of Dr. Gerard O’Hare, has gone from strength to strength since opening its doors to the public on October 2003.

Eddie Cull, Retail Director at Parker Green International said:

“Fairgreen boasts a range of big brand names such as Next, River Island, Champion Sports and New Look, which undoubtedly pull in the crowds. We have two great anchor stores in Tesco and Heatons, which are further complimented by the smaller independent retailers and local service providers which include a butchers, a hairdressing salon, and a florist.”

“The eclectic mix of local and international tenants ensures we do not become branded as another ‘clone’ centre. We offer a unique range of facilities to suit every shopper’s taste and continually strive to offer the best shopping and services around and will continue building on the centre’s success by lodging plans for a further expansion at the centre.”

“The new expansion will comprise a multi-million pound state-of the art multiplex cinema for the people of Carlow, which will be operated by Omniplex, the country’s largest cinema group.
Plans in the pipeline also include more prime retail outlets plus a multi-story car park to cater for the increasing number of visitors to the centre.”

“Even at the initial planning stages our vision as the developer was always integration into the local community. Fairgreen has provided hundreds of jobs and much needed facilities for Carlow and the community very much supported the development.”

“We are very much committed to building on the relationship we have established with the local residents through our support and funding of local community projects and initiatives, including the funding of New Oak Football Pavilion and Community Centre which was officially opened by Minister Brian Lenihan T.D last year”

This new expansion will be welcomed by town officials and the wider community as it will create more local jobs for local people, plus the provision of more retail choice and leisure facilities will prevent leakage out of Carlow to the neighbouring town of Kilkenny, ensuring Carlow’s growing economy remains intact.
