Dr. Gerard O’Hare, Group Managing Director of Parker Green International stated:
‘The 2006 Special Olympics Ireland Games was one of the largest sporting events this year throughout the UK and Ireland and we were delighted to be involved.
It was a prestigious sporting occasion providing opportunities for individuals with learning difficulties at all levels.
Making gifted athletes’ dreams a reality and being a part of an event which encouraged each participant to develop physically, emotionally and socially was extremely rewarding”.
“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Special Olympics Athletes in their achievements. It was a great honour to be selected to present medals to the winning Table Tennis participants at the award ceremony held at the Indoor Tennis Arena on Saturday”.
“Overall, the event was not solely about 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The Games commended each athlete’s unique skill, courage, determination and unlimited potential, therefore each participant was a winner in their own right”.
“A congratulations to all volunteers and organisers of the Games also in making this event a thriving success. It was our pleasure to be part of such an extensive inspirational team.”
Currently, there are over 34,000 people on the Island of Ireland with a learning disability, and this year over 10,000 were involved in the Special Olympics Ireland Games 2006.
